Product Description

The 50mm F1.4 DG HSM is a premium 'normal' prime designed for full frame SLRs, and part of Sigma's 'Art' line. Not to be confused with the older 50mm D1.4 EX DG HSM, it's a completely new lens with a complex optical formula of 13 elements in 8 groups, and a minimum focus distance of 40cm. As part of the 'Global Vision' line it's also compatible with Sigma's USB dock and Mount Conversion Service. On APS-C / FX SLRs it acts like a 75mm short telephoto lens.

The Sigma 50mm F1.4 DG HSM | Art is distinctly large, heavy and expensive for its type. However this is more than made up for by its fast silent autofocus, solid build quality, and absolutely outstanding optics. Overall it stakes a very serious claim to be the best autofocus 50mm prime on the market right now.

This lens is simply outstanding. Saved my day many times during sub-optimal light conditions. Razor sharp, ca and distortion almost non-existent. Now with the USB dock, future firmware updates and focus adjustments can be made at home. Sigma has nailed this one big time. Occassionally it hunts for a focus a bit, but that could rather be due to the light conditions one would use this lens at, than the focus itself. Down goes half a star for size, weight, price and missing weather sealing. ...
