The acclaimed Tamron 18-270mm VC ultra zoom for APS-C format DSLRs has reached an astonishing new level of compactness, performance, and speed with the addition of PZD (Piezo Drive), an innovative ultrasonic autofocus motor based on an advanced piezoelectric design. The result is a lens that's considerably lighter, and noticeably shorter and slimmer (filter diameter: 62mm) than any previous lens in its class, and provides faster, quieter auto-focusing.

This is my carry around lens I beat this lens to death under lots of adverse conditions. Its a very good lens for the money its very good not great. So in saying that would I buy another like it NO even though its a very good lens . Here is why I had the lens for less than 2 months and Ive 4 specks of dust on the outer element of the lens. That means I have to send it back and get it cleaned. This lens only seen 400 pictures outside and it was infected with dust. I would buy a canon L lens ...
How to change focal length in EXIF
Today I have been shooting at the zoo, using my A57 with Tamron 18-270 often at its largest focal length. When processing the images with DxO, I noticed a lot of them were not recognized by DxO for a supported camera / lens combination. Further investigation revealed all these images were showing a focal length of 280 in EXIF information. Does anyone know how to set this back to 270, so DxO will recognize them? (or another solution to this awkward issue)
This 280mm reading in EXIF has been going on with this lens since it's introduction. It is simply something I see no reason to be concerned about as it makes no practical difference anyway. Continue Reading

It does make a difference to me, since DxO does not apply any lens corrections when it reads an erratic focal length. And the Tamron 18-270 has quite some distortion to correct. So what I need is either a tool that can update the focal length in Exif (batch wise preferrably) or any tips how to force DxO to use a specific profile. Continue Reading

The old Sigma, there have been several threads on this subject in the last week. Do a search probably for 18-250 or a specific lens. Continue Reading
I have the new Sigma 18-250 macro version and I like it much more than the Sony 18-250 that I sold. The new version Sigma is sharper and quiet! In fact I liked it so much that I told my brother who also has the a57 and Sony 18-250 and he also traded his Sony for the newer Sigma. I have never used the older version Sigma 18-250 so I can not compare. Continue Reading
